Mount Vernon is a city in Westchester County, New York. It lies on the border of the New York City borough of the Bronx. Anne Hutchinson founded the Westchester city in the 17th Century and named it for its green mount. Mount Vernon has in recent years undergone a transition from a city of homes and small businesses to a city of regional commerce.  Mount Vernon became divided in two by the New Haven Line railroad tracks of the Metro North railroad: North side and Southside in 1960.
