Tips for National Decorating Month

Have you wanted to give your home a makeover? Now is the perfect time to do it! April is National Decorating Month. Celebrate this stylish occasion by working on a couple of interior design projects. If you’re unsure of what you’re able to achieve, read our tips for National Decorating Month. There is sure to be one or two tasks you’ll be able to accomplish before the month is over!

Add a fresh coat of paint

An instant home facelift requires a fresh coat of paint. Depending on the color you choose, you can brighten up the space or make a statement. To help you decide on the right color, look at your surroundings. What color furniture do you have? What does the rest of your decor look like? If the space has bright and bold furniture, balance the room with a neutral color on your walls, but if you have neutral furniture, consider adding a pop of color through your paint.

Fill your space with flowers and greenery

Don’t wait until May to bring flowers into your home. Fresh flowers aren’t just mood boosters, but they’re beautiful and welcoming, too. Find a vase you love, or use everyday items as makeshift flower holders, like wine bottles or mason jars. If you won’t be able to keep up with fresh flowers every week, add a bit of greenery instead. Greenery is easy to maintain and has the same effect on your mood as flowers. Plus, plants help improve your home’s air quality.

Invest in new artwork

When you’re redesigning your space, you should think about adding new artwork into the mix. Art is the best statement piece for any home. Not only does it show off your personality and style, but you have so many art forms to choose from, like photos, painting, statues, and sculptures—even the jewelry hanging in your bedroom can be considered artwork. If you don’t want to get rid of the art you have, you can always give it a simple upgrade, such as replacing the frames on your photos.

Fix up your outdoor space

If your home has a bit of outdoor space, spring is the perfect time to redecorate it. Since you’ll be able to spend more time outdoors, you’ll want to have a place that’s comfortable and chic. Update your outdoor furniture if what you currently have is old and outdated. Consider getting a firepit or string lights for extra ambiance. These little additions can make the space even more inviting.

Lay down a new rug

Rugs are fun design pieces that truly transform a space. They add comfort and visual appeal to your home both indoors and outdoors. Plus, there are so many textures, patterns, and colors available, so you’re really able to find something that matches your style. Since it’s spring, look for stripes, florals, or pastel-colored options.

Update your lighting

Lighting enhances the aesthetics of your house and improves the mood of the space. Take full advantage of natural light when possible. Hang sheer curtains or draw darker curtains to the side to let the sunlight shine throughout the room. Replace old light fixtures with new geometric ones to modernize your space. Or, you can swap out your lampshades for something fresh and bright.

Exchange your Fabrics

As the colder months come to an end, there is no need for your faux fur throws or thick wool blankets. Replace these winter-friendly fabrics with more seasonal choices. The best light-weight materials are cotton and linen. Use these textures in your curtains, sheets, rugs, and throw pillows. Don’t forget to choose options with pretty patterns or pastels colors.

Use these ideas to make a few simple home upgrades in honor of National Decorating Month. If you need help choosing the right colors, designs, and styles for your home, give Marina Colella a call and schedule your in-home design consultation!
