5 Ideas to Make Your Home Comfy and Cozy

Our homes have become a place where we do more than just unwind after a long day. They’re our sanctuaries where we feel safest. If you’re one of the people who is happily choosing a night in over a night out on the town, then you’ll want to make sure everything is in perfect shape for relaxation. There are plenty of design techniques you can employ to achieve this feeling.

Here are five ways you can dive into the nesting lifestyle right at home:

Have a subtle paint palette.
Covering the walls in loud, bright colors will likely generate the nervous energy you’re trying to avoid. Instead, opt for softer neutrals that invite you in and create calm. From off-whites to warm tans and soft greens, there are countless colors that can change the overall look and feel of a room and, in effect, impact your mood positively.

Incorporate oversized furniture.
Once the walls are painted, fill the room with plush, oversized furniture. Stage a deep sectional with downy throw pillows. Angle a wide armchair towards the center of the room to promote conversation and connection. Add an ottoman that can easily be moved and used for additional seating or, better yet, as a footrest. Not only are these larger pieces of furniture more alluring, but they are also undeniably more comfortable.

Opt for round edges.
Furniture does not have to be covered in lush fabric for it to be comfortable. When incorporating pieces made of wood or natural metals, look for curved edges. This design feature softens their appearance and adds warmth to your space. The same styling secret applies when looking to add new decor items!

Add layers of texture.
Once your most prominent pieces of furniture are in, use them as a stage to introduce different textures. Add throw pillows and blankets with thick knits, panels of fringe, or even faux furs. Layering textures in this way adds more depth to your overall look. Aside from being aesthetically pleasing, blankets and pillows are perfect for when you want to curl up on the couch with a good book or take a nap.

Create mood lighting.
One of the easiest ways to make a space more inviting is with low lighting. Use hanging lanterns, candles, and string lights to create soft glows. Or, make a more dramatic statement with floor lighting that casts on the wall. Whichever you choose, it is essential to remember that part of what makes mood lighting so familiar and comfortable is how it creates shadows and uses light to guide you towards a more welcoming space.
